Inner Light

A tabletop roleplaying game of internal conflict

Inner Light Cover No Text.jpg

Inside of you are two wolves. Or possibly six core emotions. Or maybe a small company of distinct persons. Perhaps the ego, superego, and id. Whatever form it takes, you are the product of a balancing act between varying forces, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and goals. In order to navigate the world, you rely on these different aspects of the self, these myriad forms of inner light, to illuminate your path.

In this game, you as a player take on an Aspect of an individual. Your person is dealing with complex interpersonal relationships, awkward social situations, and demanding periods of stress; and you have your own ideas about how to get the best result for them. But you aren't alone in your person's head, sharing it with any number of alters, imaginary friends, animated motivations, and shoulder-dwelling lawyers of ethics. How will you work together, or undercut one another, to see your person succeed (whatever you think ‘success’ looks like)?

Inner Light is a rules-light system for playing the voices inside a character's head, the conflicting motivations driving them, or the moral forces tugging at their soul. The book includes the full rules for playing Inner Light as a standalone tabletop RPG, as well as optional rules for using the game to reimagine and control characters built within other game systems.

Accessibility Options

To make the game easier to access for the visually impaired, the options below each include a plaintext version of the rules that has been tested for compatibility with screen readers and using a more dyslexic-friendly font, as well as an audiobook format of the rules.
